Paddle Steamer Curlip cruises

Give yourself time...

Glide past rushes, graceful herons and contemplative cows as the paddle wheels churn rhythmically on. Vistas of distant mountains frame waterways full of birds: black swans, cormorants, pelicans and ducks. As you pass by a sea eagles nest high atop a tree in the rainforest the aroma of fresh coffee from the galley drifts across the clean air...

Cruising the Snowy River Estuary on the Paddle Steamer Curlip II

PS Curlip will be the only commercial cruise vessel operating on the Snowy River. Cruises will explore the rich and varied ecosystems Snowy River Estuary much of which is only accessible by boat.

Separated from the ocean by a dune system, the Snowy River spreads out to form a network of lakes, islands and wetlands that are a haven for water birds. A few kilometers upstream pockets of remnant rainforest cling to the river banks, a reminder of what once covered the Snowy River flood plain. The fertile river flats, enriched by years of silt carried down in floods now support intense farming. History is built into the banks: the people of the indigenous Gunai/Kurnai nation once lived an abundant life style here, getting food and life’s necessities from forests, sea shore and rivers

The historic Tabbara mill site, eight kilometers upstream from Marlo on the Brodribb River is being developed as an interpretive area, with information boards describing the lives of the indigenous people and early European pioneers of the area. Cruises to Tabbara will be operating from 2009.
